Dolly Parton - A Real Cougar Extraordinaire

Dolly I absolutely adore Dolly Parton.  Defying all known logic, she remains tough and cool even in the musty pages of AARP magazine latest issue. She recently told them “After you reach a certain age, they think you’re over. Well, I will never be over. I’ll be making records if I have to sell them out of the trunk of my car. I’ve done that in my past, and I’d do it again.” Did you hear that, Kanye?

What I love most about Dolly is her energizing spirit.  She said "there wasn't ever a time I thought I wasn't going to make it."  And, even when she did make it, she just kept right on dreaming.  That's something all of us need to be doing. You are never too old to dream.

Dolly's dreaming has always been informed by an abiding faith. Over the years she has fashioned her own personal spirituality like so many of us Real Cougars have.  Danny Nozell, Parton's personal manager says "her faith drives her. She thinks about things, she prays on them, then she makes a decision.  And, the decisions more-often-than-not goes her way."

At 63, this woman can teach all of us a thing or two about living life to the fullest.

Breast Cancer and The Happiness Factor

New evidence is showing that feeling happy and optimistic plays a positive role in protecting women against breast cancer. Research published in BMC Cancer suggests that while staying positive has a protective role, adverse life events such as the loss of a parent, divorce or death of a spouse can increase a woman's risk of developing the disease.Couple flirting

Ronit Peled from the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, led a team of researchers who questioned 255 women with breast cancer about their life experiences and evaluated their levels of happiness, optimism, anxiety and depression prior to diagnosis. Peled said, "Young women who have been exposed to a number of negative life events should be considered an 'at-risk' group for breast cancer and should be treated accordingly".

The researchers do point out that women were interviewed after their diagnosis, which may color their recall of past emotional states somewhat negatively. However, according to Peled, "We can carefully say that experiencing more than one severe or moderate life event is a risk factor for breast cancer among young women. On the other hand, a general feeling of happiness and optimism can play a protective role".

In my humble opinion, being happy and positive does increase our resistance to all things not wanted, including disease. And, even if all this research is wrong, what's the downside of waking up each morning feeling the joy of being alive?

Happiness: Is It As Simple As Wanting What You Have?

Good_looking_womanWe've all heard that happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have. Easier said than done, right? Texas Tech University psychologist Jeff Larsen and Amie McKibban of Wichita State University put it to the test.

Simply having a bunch of things is not the key to happiness," Larsen said. "Our data shows that you also need to appreciate those things you have. It's also important to keep your desire for things you don't own in check."

In my opinion this research simply put an academic spin on a spiritual law. Desire is something all humans naturally possess.  We have wants and our desire is the spark of all creation.  But, here's the million dollar question.  What do we have to do to make our desires become a reality?

Not an easy question to answer but this has been my experience. It's impossible to create what you want when you're feeling bad, sad or overwhelmed.   To get what you want, you have to focus on feeling good and hold onto that feeling while you're waiting for that something to arrive.  Every day feel like it's already here.

For some unexplained reason we seem to pay more attention to the things we don't have or don't want than the things we do.  When I do that all I get is more of the don't wants popping up in my life.  Not very smart is it?  Imagine a radio that you've tuned to 106.7 but you want to hear the music playing on 101.1.  It's not going to happen. You have to be in tuned into the station that going to play what you want to hear.

We have to apply the same principle to the things we want.  We have to be tuned into the right frequency.  So now I wake up in the morning imagining I have all the things I want in my life.  That makes me feel happy and I do my best to hold onto that feeling all day.  Happiness is the magnet that draws in more happiness.

So, if you want a new house, picture yourself there, fantasize about it.   See it decorated just the way you want it.  Feel the sun warming your skin as you sit by your fabulous pool. Harness those powerful happiness vibrations because that's what will turn your dreams into reality.

Dr. Christiane Northrop Says "The Smile" Renews Sexual Desire

Dr_northrop_photo_3 Dr. Christiane Northrop was back on Oprah yesterday.  You remember the last time she appeared talking about Oprah's thyroid condition it caused quite a stir.  This time it was all about answering questions from the audience.  The show got up close and personal regarding female health issues. Every topic from vaginal odor to urinary incontinence was covered in detail.

One of the women who was part of an assembled female forum asked Dr. Northrop how to get back her sex drive after having undergone a hysterectomy.  Her surgery was a couple of years ago but she hasn't been able to regain her sexual desire.  That's not unusual.  After you lose your ovaries you lose your ability to produce estrogen and testosterone which are the hormones of desire. Dr. Northrop says "you can use your mind and your breath to energize.  Send a big ball of energy down there.  Because you know what?  They didn't take away your clitoris."

Starbucks: How It Became A Spiritual Retreat For Michael Gill

Starbucks I had to run to my computer and write this blog after watching Michael GIll on CBS's Sunday Morning program.

When I finished reading Eat Pray Love I thought I had reached the top of the mountain when it came to inspirational stories.  But, today Michael Gill took me to new heights.  I haven't read the book yet, but have no doubt whatsoever, that Michael was on a path that the universe had in store for him all along. A path we will all go down as part of our own spiritual journey.

What I heard this morning was how an affluent man fell from grace.  And, how that experience opened his heart, allowing him to experience a new and profound kind of joy.

Eat Pray Love - You Have Got To Read This Book

Elizabeth_gilbert_lh_201705 For those of you who haven't yet read Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - run out and get a copy, you're going to love it.  In my opinion, this wonderful little book is packed with life changing insights and is a must read for every woman on the planet.

What I liked most about this book was Liz's honesty and her courage.  She turned herself inside out to explore the deepest recesses of her soul.  Anyone who travels with her on this heart felt journey will connect to their own passions and longings through her superbly written stories.

Esther Hicks & The Law of Attraction - Bringing Sanity Into A Insane World

Hicks Yesterday I attended my third "Art of Allowing" Workshop led by Esther Hicks and her husband Jerry.  Esther is one of the finest motivational speakers ever. I have been listening to the Abraham-Hicks tapes for the past 12 years and can honestly say they have changed my life.  They bring clarity and wisdom that truly resonate with the deepest part of who I am.

I learned yesterday that The Big "O" Oprah herself, is also a huge fan of these teachings.  The reason they are so popular is because they clearly answer the timless questions about life and how to make it better. They help us find the joy we are all seeking, and give us step-by-step guidance on how to bring the things we desire directly to our door. I try to incorporate many of their teachings into my High-Yield Living philosopy because the messages are so transforming and so rewarding.

Women's Health Week: Make it Count!

Couple_flirting This week is National Women's Health Week.  The theme this year is "It's Your Time! Pamper Your Mind, Body and Spirit".  Of course, I'm delighted with this message because it's the backbone of High-Yield Living.

Taking time to care for yourself is not only essential for good health, it's essential for enjoying life. I know we are all pressed for time, but we really can't afford to take ourselves for granted any longer. After all, today is not a dress rehearsal.  It's opening night. Don't you think it's time to give yourself "top billing"?  It's your choice!  But, before you make that choice, consider this.  You will be no good to yourself and others if you choose to put yourself last.

The Secret - Not Such A Secret Afterall

After "The Secret" was revealed on Oprah last week, it caused quite a stir.  In fact, there will be a followup program this Friday, February 16th, when Oprah will talk about what has happened since the show was aired.

It's funny, I remember Oprah saying she didn't know this was a secret, it's just the way she lives her life.  I feel the same way.  The Secret isn't a secret. It's something we all knew, but over time many of us have forgotten. The Law of Attraction is a universal law that is part of each of us.  It has been around since time began.  I adopted these laws over 30 years ago when I first read them in a book called "Consciously Creating Circumstances".  The book made me connect to what was already inside of me.  That reconnect changed my life.
